Quote Revision Number

Hi,
I have installed and configured the counter onto a quote record to create our own quote number. We are having an issue though - when revising a quote, it generates a new quote number and increases the revision number rather than keeping the same quote number and just increasing the revision number.
Is this normal? Have I configured it correctly?
Is there a way that we can create a new quote number that stays the same if we revise the quote?

In theory, all you need to do is add a line to check if the field with the number is not null, if it is then don't generate a new quote number as the CRM Revision process will copy the previous quote number through. At the moment the Autonumber is creating a new one and overwriting the existing one.
